With around USD 11 billion of international procurement each year, projects financed by the World Bank Group (WBG) offer numerous business opportunities for German companies—particularly in the water sector, one of the most important sectors for German providers in WBG-funded projects.

Over the past year, the WBG has reformed its procurement system. Changes such as a stronger emphasis on quality criteria and the expansion of market dialogue prior to tenders improve the competitive conditions for companies offering technical excellence and sustainable solutions. This creates new opportunities for German providers.

This roundtable takes place on May 4, 2026 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the sidelines of the IFAT at Messe Munich. It offers German companies the opportunity for direct exchange with WBG’s Water Director Head and procurement experts. During the event, the WBG experts will explain how companies can participate in tenders, what specific requirements apply, and what market opportunities are emerging in the sector. At the same time, the event provides space to discuss trends and innovations from the private sector with WBG experts.

The roundtable is organized by the Agency for Business and Economic Development (AWE), Germany Water Partnership (GWP), and the WBG’s Berlin Office. The event will be held in English.
