- Overview
This seminar will showcase how sustainability-linked financial instruments can be applied to support forest preservation and deforestation prevention, aiming to provide participants with a clear, practice-oriented understanding of how sustainability-linked finance can be used to support forest outcomes across diverse country contexts.
A case study from the Sustainability-Linked Loan in Côte d’Ivoire will highlight how forestry-related KPIs can be operationalized using WB’s analytical tools, open-access datasets, forest definitions, and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems. The moderated panel will examine replicability challenges across different geographical contexts and forestry types: the Amazon, with a focus on benchmarking and exogenous drivers of deforestation; the Congo Basin, with implications for High Forest, Low Deforestation countries; and Kenya, drawing on the experience with sustainability-linked instruments in challenging macro-fiscal contexts. The session will conclude with insights on the synergies with carbon markets and audience’s questions.
