The Accra event will bring together senior government officials from Western and Central Africa, development partners, health practitioners, representatives from the private sector and civil society to build a shared understanding of how to advance health goals in an environment of tighter fiscal space and declining external assistance. It will advocate for increased collaboration and financing for health, nutrition, and resilience across the region, including a strong role for the private sector.

Countries in Western and Central Africa face growing pressure on their health systems as financing tightens and health needs expand due to population growth, disease outbreaks, climate shocks, and a rising dual burden of disease. The Regional Health, Nutrition and Population strategy for Western and Central Africa, aligned with the Accra Reset, the Lusaka Agenda, and the World Bank Group’s UHC commitment to expand health services to 1.5 billion people by  2030—provides a framework to help countries prioritize and make strategic shifts within these constraints, while advancing the Africa Initiative for Medical Access and Manufacturing (AIM2030) to promote local manufacturing of essential health products to bolster health security, economic growth, and job creation.
