Transport investments shape labor markets, productivity, access to opportunity, and economic inclusion. Yet despite the scale of public and multilateral financing in the sector, rigorous impact evaluations (IEs) remain underutilized—particularly when it comes to understanding transport’s effects on jobs and broader development outcomes.
This roundtable will examine how MDBs and partners can more systematically embed impact evaluation into transport operations—especially to better understand job creation and economic inclusion effects. The discussion will focus on institutional, operational, and data-related barriers that limit rigorous evaluation, and identify practical solutions to address them. The session will also explore how emerging cross-institutional initiatives can be leveraged to strengthen evaluation efforts and support better use of transport data for IE.
The objective is to advance a more coordinated, cross-institutional approach that ensures transport investments are backed by robust evidence on jobs and development impact.
