Description: The Government of Belize invites firms operating in energy storage, renewable energy, and grid infrastructure to participate in an early market engagement for a contract involving the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Battery Energy

Storage Systems (BESS) along with associated civil works. The project scope

encompasses turnkey services, including five years of operations and maintenance for

45.1MW/180.2MWh BESS deployed across four strategic sites within Belize's national

grid. This initiative aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the country's

electricity system while facilitating increased integration of renewable energy sources.

The purpose of the early market engagement is to:

i. Assess interest and capacity of active bidders in the market, including

appropriate project sizing and their ability to deliver turnkey BESS solutions;

ii. Understand market perception for deploying large-scale grid-connected BESS in

Belize, a tropical, hurricane-prone country;

iii. Gather bidders’ perspectives on procurement strategies and feedback on

realistic implementation timelines;

iv. Identify perceived barriers to project implementation and explore proposed

solutions;

v. Gauge bidders' technical and financial capabilities, including experience with

BESS in the Caribbean, Central America, or SIDS and readiness of regional

supply chains; and

vi. Incorporate feedback from participants to refine the final procurement approach

and promote innovative, resilient BESS technologies.
