Transboundary water management has become an increasingly critical issue, challenging countries to manage a shared resource that traverses administrative and political borders. Cross-jurisdictional river basin management in federal systems offers significant lessons for water management in internationally shared rivers. The Murray–Darling Basin Authority, responsible for the stewardship of Australia’s most important river system, offers a wealth of experience in federal water governance.
This event marked the launch of a new partnership between the World Bank and the Murray–Darling Basin Authority. The partnership represented a landmark initiative aimed at knowledge sharing, technical assistance and fostering dialogue and action to address transboundary water challenges in World Bank’s client countries.
This webinar was envisioned as the inaugural event to celebrate this partnership, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about the Murray–Darling Basin Authority experience and the World Bank’s role as facilitator of bringing global knowledge to innovative financing in shared river basins.
