The workshop was organized by the World Bank Group’s Identification for Development (ID4D) and Digitalizing Government-to-Person Payment (G2Px) sister initiatives.

DPI—including ecosystems for digital ID, digital payments, and data sharing—provides foundational digital platforms that can be leveraged for services and transactions across the public and private sectors, with the potential to facilitate inclusive and resilient digital economies. For this reason, a rapidly growing number of countries, as well as global actors and forums such as the G20, are prioritizing the development of DPI, including digital ID, digital payments, and data sharing.

Against this backdrop, ID4D and G2Px hosted a workshop to facilitate the exchange of experiences, evidence, and innovations related to DPI and its role in enabling digital development. It included sessions on emerging models and architectures; building inclusive, user centric systems; protecting personal data and implementing privacy-by-design measures; and improving data collection and research around DPI. The workshop provided opportunities for practical knowledge sharing and highlight new tools developed by the World Bank and other actors to help practitioners and policymakers working on digital ID, digital payments, and data sharing, as well as key use cases of DPI such as G2P payments.
