Sustainable public procurement has been gaining an improved understanding and attention at the international level as it touches areas and objectives that are being mentioned as top priorities on the global policy agenda. Sustainable public procurement focuses on purchasing products and services that are as sustainable as possible, with the lowest environmental impact and most positive social and economic results. At the heart of sustainable procurement policies is the notion of inclusion of previously underrepresented and historically disadvantaged groups.
The use of public procurement for further horizontal policies is not new. Many countries across the world have been using public procurement to address social concerns, such as poverty alleviation and wealth distribution. At this event, we will be sharing experiences from some of those countries.
