Global Parliamentary Conference 2020

April 13-14, 2020

Washington, D.C.

Global Parliamentary Conference 2020
  • The sixth edition of the Global Parliamentary Conference, the flagship parliamentary event of the World Bank, co-organized by the International Monetary Fund and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF, will take place on April 13-14, 2020 in Washington D.C.

The conference presents a unique occasion for some 150 parliamentarians from around the world to engage for the first time with World Bank President David Malpass alongside Kristalina Georgieva in her capacity as IMF Managing Director regarding today’s most pressing development challenges.

With only ten years remaining in the countdown to achieve the World Bank twin goals to eliminate extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity, as well as to reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, it is more urgent than ever for parliamentarians to help translate these global goals into country results. The overarching theme “Delivering for Development and Prosperity in the next Decade - what role for Parliamentarians?” will examine whether our actions today will enable us to achieve global targets in time. Sessions will delve into how legislators can partner with the World Bank and IMF to maximize country outcomes.

The second day of the 2020 Global Parliamentary Conference will include:

    ·         A special Women Leading Politics session bringing together women Speakers of Parliament on a panel with other prominent female leaders to show how female representation at every level of decision-making is essential to building more inclusive and flourishing societies.

    ·         The second meeting of the World Bank Global Young MP Initiative – a convening platform for parliamentarians age 45 and under to engage around issues confronting youth.

Registration open here until February 28. Please address any queries to parliamentarians@worldbank.org or givanova@parlnet.org
