  • This Technical Deep Dive (TDD) provided a platform for knowledge exchange and structured learning among development practitioners, local and national government officials in developing countries on issues related to informal communities and livelihoods for the urban poor. The TDD highlighted good practices, including the Bank’s experience on urban upgrading, as well as leading examples from Japan and other countries. Participants were able to deepen their understanding of the design and implementation of interventions that improve living conditions and opportunities for those living in informal communities and upgrade informal economic activity in urban settings. The event also covered approaches by the public and private sector, as well as civil society organizations, and touched upon technologies and innovation that are expected to scale-up the urban upgrading process.
