  • Sri Lankans like to think their country is one of the most beautiful in the world, and they’re right. A biodiversity hotspot, the island has unique flora and fauna and abundant natural resources that also serve as fundamental assets for its people.

But how can this nation ensure these resources are protected for the future? How can we pursue development that is sustainable and equitable? And crucially, what does “green growth” mean for the ordinary citizen?

World Bank Sri Lanka will be hosting a Public Dialogue on the Economic Benefits of Environment Management on the 25th of August, 2017 at HIVE, MAS Innovation Center. We’re bringing together a group of diverse experts from our country office to talk not just about the wider policy goals, but what inspires them to go to work every day, focusing on sustainable development and poverty alleviation.

We’ll wrap up with a celebration, recognizing and awarding prizes to the amazing winners of our #StoriesfromLKA contest.

World Bank Sri Lanka launched an online campaign titled #StoriesfromLKA during the month of June. Celebrating World Environment day, the theme was “Connecting People to Nature”. The campaign offered our followers insight into World Bank operations related to the environment, and also debuted a photo competition aimed at raising awareness and appreciation of the natural world. The goal of the competition was to highlight how important it was to balance conservation efforts with critical development initiatives. Check out the winners.
