2015 Africa Youth Forum: Embracing Youth Entrepreneurship
May 22-24, 2015Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

Hosted by the World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Young African Society, the Second Annual Youth Forum brings together young, innovative entrepreneurs and experts to crowdsource solutions to real-life development issues in Africa, attend career-building and leadership workshops and participate in a development case competition.

The 2015 Africa Youth Forum will bring together young innovative leaders from around the African continent to pitch practical and scalable solutions that advance social and economic development in their communities. The forum will bring together young entrepreneurs with experts from academia, development institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector and government to support a youth led development agenda. The Forum will include career building and leadership workshops, a career fair and a development case competition. Five project finalists will be announced at the event and project leads will present their proposals to elicit funding from investors.

While the formal sector—with its larger firms and structured wage jobs—will eventually become Africa’s biggest employer, the majority of people in African countries—nearly 80 percent—work in the informal sector. As a result, many of the 11 million youth entering Africa’s labor market every year will be tasked with creating their own jobs.

The 2015 Africa Youth Forum is hosted by the World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Young African Society (YAS), in partnership with Africa 2.0 and Africsearch.

The association works to establish a sense of community among young Africans globally, exchange knowledge, promote collaboration and nurture innovative ideas that promote growth and prosperity, as well as provide social and professional guidance.
