This event aims to create a platform to discuss strategies to achieve women’s empowerment globally. A high-level panel will discuss the recent report, Voice and Agency: Empowering Women and Girls for Shared Prosperity, in the context of their own experiences.

Voice and Agency distills vast data and hundreds of studies to shed new light on constraints facing women and girls worldwide, from epidemic levels of gender-based violence to biased laws and norms that prevent them from owning property, working, and making decisions about their own lives. While highlighting gaps, the report equally reviews promising policies and interventions, and it identifies priority areas where further research and more and better data and evidence are needed.

Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro is President and CEO of Global Fund for Women and a passionate advocate for women and girls’ health and human rights, and social change philanthropy. Dr. Kanyoro is a sought after public speaker and accomplished leader with three decades of experience managing international non-governmental organizations, global programs, and ecumenical agencies in cross-cultural contexts. Boards and service: Aspen Leaders Council, UN High level Taskforce for Reproductive Health, CARE and IntraHealth. 

Dr. Judith Auerbach is a public sociologist, independent science and policy consultant, and Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Recently, she served as Vice President for Research and Evaluation at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF), where she was responsible for developing, leading, and managing SFAF’s research, research translation, and program evaluation efforts. Prior to joining SFAF, Dr. Auerbach served as Vice President, Public Policy and Program Development, at amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research),where she headed amfAR’s Public Policy Office in Washington, D.C. and coordinated programmatic activities across the foundation.

Erin Ganju is the co-founder and CEO of Room to Read. From the early start-up days of Room to Read, she has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the Organization’s scalable, replicable model for improving the quality of education across Asia and Africa. She oversees Room to Read’s global operations, which has a worldwide staff of over 1,000 employees. Erin holds a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree in international relations and economics from The Johns Hopkins University and previously worked for Unilever and Goldman Sachs.

Jeni Klugman is a Senior Adviser to the World Bank Group, where she has served as lead spokesperson on gender equality issues, and is responsible for developing strategic directions to support the institution's gender and development priorities. She also serves on several advisory boards, including the World Economic Forum's Advisory Board on Sustainability and Competitiveness, and those related to the work of the Council on Foreign Relations, Plan International, International Civil Society Network, UNDP 2013 World Report on Democratic Governance, and a European Union research program on GDP and beyond.
