Flooding poses a serious challenge in China, particularly for small towns, cities and rural areas. While major steps have been taken to improve flood disaster prevention capacity and infrastructure, there is a need to prioritize and increase investments to improve planning, prevention, mitigation and response to floods to prevent the loss of life and property from current and future flood events.

To share latest knowledge and practical experience on integrated urban flood risk management, the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) of China and the World Bank, with support from the Water Partnership Program (WPP), are organizing a two-day learning workshop focusing on flood risk assessment approaches and methodologies, management strategies, and financing options to inform policy and investments under disaster and climate uncertainties.

Taking place in December 10-11 at the China Hall of Science and Technology, the event will welcome officials from national, provincial and municipal agencies, practitioners as well as national and international experts from the Ministry of Water Resources, Beijing Office of Flood Control and Drought Relief, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing Normal University, University of Maryland, Danish Hydraulic Institute, DHI-UNESCO, Royal Haskoning DHV, and RAND Corporation amongst others.
