Building Thailand's Future Today

Thailand will host the IMF-World Bank Group (WBG) Annual Meetings in October 2026, an opportunity to showcase the nation's forward-looking development vision. In preparation for the Annual Meetings, "Building Thailand's Future Today" is a WBG Thailand report and consultation platform that will help layout a development vision for Thailand. It will take stock of Thailand's development successes and pressing future priorities. It will then help lay out a vision and a practical roadmap for Thailand's path to high-income and inclusive society. 

To achieve it's development vision, Thailand will need to cultivate new industries, and reinvigorate existing ones, to drive job creation and growth. The WBG has jobs as the north star of its global strategy, and the "Building Thailand's Future Today" report has translated this agenda into Thailand's comparative advantage. It identifies five key "Industries of the Future" with strong potential to contribute to Thailand's growth and development.

Foresight and Consultation Process: Call for Participation

To formulate the development vision for Thailand, the next step - over the coming months - is to work with partners across Thailand to shaepe a shared vision for each of Thailand's future industries, the key enablers, and the actions needed to get there. To do this, we've launched a foresight and consultation process, which will involve bringing together voices from government, business, academia, and civil society to shape the future vision for Thailand. 

The foresight and consultation process will launch publicly on November 1 through a coordinated campaign with leading media outlets. The application process will run from November 1-20, 2025. We welcome applications from experts, business leaders, policy practitioners, and ecosystem builders across the five pathways — large firms and SMEs, startups, academia/research, standards bodies, city leaders, investors, and civil society.Participation may include:

• Foresight Workshops (Nov-Dec 2025): Facilitated group sessions to co-develop scenarios and envision preferred futures
• Expert Validation Roundtable (Jan-Feb 2026): Smaller session to refine scenarios and transformation pathways

Expected Outputs

Each sector foresight report will provide:

• Key signals of change and sector drivers
• Plausible future scenarios and workforce personas
• Gap analysis and milestones toward preferred futures
• Policy and strategy recommendations for the 2026 Vision Report "Building Thailand's Future Today"
