The Challenge
Digital transformation is a powerful engine of economic growth, competitiveness, job creation, and inclusion. It is changing how people learn, work, and interact. Yet billions still lack basic internet access, and as AI evolves rapidly, the digital gap between countries is widening. Many nations do not yet have the infrastructure, skills, or systems needed to fully benefit from these opportunities. Closing this gap is essential for creating more jobs and ensuring sustainable, inclusive growth.
A Partnership for an Inclusive Digital Future
To help bridge this divide, the World Bank and the government of the Republic of Korea have launched the Korea–World Bank Global Digital Knowledge Center. This new global platform supports low- and middle-income countries in harnessing digital transformation and AI. Building on Korea’s leadership in digital innovation and the World Bank’s operational reach in more than 100 countries, the Center transforms global knowledge into practical solutions. It serves as both a knowledge hub and a hands-on support platform, connecting ideas, expertise, and resources to help countries advance their national digital strategies across East Asia and Pacific and beyond.
Key Areas of Work
With AI at its core, the Center strengthens low- and middle-income countries’ capacity to:
- Build robust digital foundations – secure, resilient, and inclusive connectivity and data systems.
- Expand high-impact digital public services – improving access, efficiency, and citizen trust.
- Foster inclusive digital economies – promoting skills, entrepreneurship, and participation in the digital economy through responsible technology and AI adoption.
