Highlights from recent activities of the Japan Chapter of the Parliamentary Network (PNoWB Japan)

General Assembly 2026 and Exchange of Views with Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group

On June 2, the Japan Chapter of the Parliamentary Network of World Bank, or PNoWB Japan, chaired by Ichiro Aisawa, held the General Assembly. Moderated by Secretary-General Masahiro Komura, the session brought together the total of 27 parliamentarians, including substitutes, where the activity plan for this fiscal year was approved.

Following the General Assembly, the parliamentarians exchanged views with President Ajay Banga. President Banga expressed gratitude for Japan's cooperation with the World Bank, and briefed on the World Bank Evolution, including corporate restructuring and reduction of project approval time. Then followed the Q&A session, where dynamic discussions covered the World Bank support against the prolonged conflicts in the Middle East and other areas, progress of the World Bank reform efforts and the priorities going forward, how the World Bank is going to fill the financing gap against the background of declining country ODA, as well as what energy structure will be promoted in emerging countries while providing support in the energy sector. From the World Bank Group, Tsutomu Yamamoto, the Managing Director of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) was also present at the meeting.

Chairman Aisawa made a comment that he would like the President to fully take the remarks by the parliamentarians and to make further actions. He also mentioned that Japan would like to continue working closely with the World Bank to achieve a better society.

From the Government of Japan, officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the meeting.
