Seizing opportunities in African agriculture
https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/africacan/seizing-opportunities-in-african-agriculture

African agriculture holds vast potential to power inclusive growth, yet productivity gains lag. While agri-food systems already provide two-thirds of jobs, most recent output growth has come from land expansion - an unsustainable path. Rising incomes and urbanization are fueling demand and job creation in mid- and downstream agri-food activities, but weak farm productivity risks higher food imports and missed opportunities. Evidence from the Africa Development Forum shows that smarter public spending on rural public goods, supportive trade and regulatory reforms, and stronger links between farmers and agribusiness can close gaps. Country successes - from cashews in Côte d’Ivoire to flowers in Kenya - point to scalable pathways for jobs, exports, and poverty reduction.

The Commons: A new framework for development policy in Sub-Saharan Africa?

Commons - from water systems to land and digital mapping - play a growing yet complex role in development across Sub-Saharan Africa. Drawing on The Commons: Drivers of Change and Opportunities for Africa, this blog examines how public policies and development projects interact with locally managed commons. It highlights both opportunities for cooperation and risks such as distortion, capture, or the shifting of state responsibilities onto communities. Rather than offering ready-made solutions, the book calls for a “commons-based approach” that recognizes local practices, avoids one-size-fits-all models, and supports plural pathways to development grounded in real social dynamics.

Industrialization drives the sustained growth in jobs and productivity that marks the developmental take-off of most developed economies and industrialization remains central to structural transformation in Africa, yet Africa’s experience has been uneven and incomplete. Africa's new industrial strategy should be one that competes on productivity and learning, and connects national industries into regional and global value networks and creates value

Africa’s untapped natural resource potential could be the engine for economic transformation
https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/africacan/africas-untapped-natural-resource-potential-could-be-the-engine-for-economic-transformation

Sub-Saharan Africa's vast mineral wealth - including 30% of the world's mineral reserves - could generate an additional $20 billion annually in government revenues with improved policies. The World Bank emphasizes that while the region holds significant untapped potential in critical minerals essential for the global energy transition, realizing this potential requires stronger fiscal frameworks, better governance, regional integration through AfCFTA, and strategic policies to avoid the resource curse and build diversified, resilient economies.

Africa’s big push on electrification: A cautionary tale
https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/africacan/africa-s-big-push-on-electrification--a-cautionary-afe-tale

As Africa pursues universal electricity access by 2030 through initiatives like Mission 300, this blog cautions that expanding connections alone is insufficient for development impact. The World Bank emphasizes that electrification must focus on reliable supply for productive uses, be integrated with complementary infrastructure, address structural challenges in the energy sector, and allow time for economic transformation to materialize.
