Youjin Choi is Financial Sector Specialist at the Seoul Center for Financial Sector Development in the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation (FCI) Global Practice, covering the East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) region from the WBG Korea Office. As a former financial supervisor, she works on FCI’s financial sector advisory programs in EAP, focusing on capital markets, SME finance, and fintech. She also manages partnerships with Korean financial institutions to leverage their expertise to support WBG programs and clients. Since starting this job in December 2015, she has played a crucial role in developing partnerships with over 30 Korean financial institutions and organizing over 50 successful knowledge exchanges to share lessons from Korea with EAP clients. Prior to joining the Korea Office, she worked at the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) of Korea for seven years, covering various financial sector issues but focusing on supervision of securities broker-dealers and fund management firms. In this capacity she has also participated in dialogues with global standard-setting bodies such as the BCBS for the banking sector and the IOSCO for the securities markets.
Prior to FSS, she was with the WBG for three years in Washington DC, as Investment Analyst at IFC’s then Subnational Finance department, and as Consultant at WBG’s Internal Audit Department. She holds a U.S. CPA Certificate and a master’s degree in Finance from Seoul National University.
