Wendy Werner, CFA, is the World Bank Group Country Manager for Oman, based in Muscat.
Werner leads the World Bank Group’s Country Program representing the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). In her current position, she manages the day-to-day strategic dialogue with the Government of Oman; supports sustainable economic growth and private sector development; and provides strategic leadership to the country team and manages the Oman country office.
With over two decades of experience across emerging and frontier markets, Werner has led transformative investments in climate finance, gender inclusion, and sustainable infrastructure. She first joined IFC in 2003 and has extensive experience working across South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia and Europe. Most recently, she served as the IFC Country Manager in India and the Maldives, overseeing IFC’s largest country portfolio. Before that, she was the IFC Country Manager for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, where she significantly expanded IFC's portfolio, developing a pipeline of diversified projects through investment and advisory services. Previously she was the Lead Private Sector Development Specialist and Practice Manager for the Trade and Competitiveness unit.
Before joining the World Bank Group, Werner worked for the US Export Import Bank, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute and Columbia Gas Transmission.
A U.S. national, Werner holds an MBA and MA in International Affairs from the George Washington University, and a BA in Economics from Grinnell College.
