Volker Oel Executive Director EDS05 Germany

Volker Oel is the Wold Bank Group Executive Director for Germany since January 2026.

Prior to joining the WBG Board, Mr. Oel held various senior positions in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as Director/Commissioner for Middle East/MENA; South-Eastern/Eastern Europe and Latin America; Head of Division, Middle East II (BMZ); Head of Division, Steering and Supervision of the German Development Agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ); Head of Division, Legal Affairs; Deputy Head of Division, Organisational Affairs; Desk Officer, Sub Sahara Africa; Southern Africa Division and European Union Division (2001-2026).

Mr. Oel also served as the Head of Cooperation, German Embassy Windhoek in Namibia (2002-2005) and (2016- 2019).

Mr. Oel holds a law degree.
