Sudeshna Ghosh Banerjee is the Regional Director for Infrastructure for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region at the World Bank – a position she assumed in mid-2023. In this capacity she manages the World Bank’s energy and transport programs that focus on accelerating the clean energy transition, delivering green logistics and urban mobility solutions, ensuring access to resilient transport and energy services, and expanding regional integration and connectivity – with a team of about 100 professionals based in a dozen countries in the region who implement and oversee loan commitments over US$10 billion. Previously, Sudeshna was the appointed Practice Manager for Europe and Central Asia (2021-2023) and for East Africa (2017-2021) in the Energy and Extractives Global Department, where she was responsible for managing wide range of energy operations and policy engagements. An Economist by training, her thematic focus is on project economics, monitoring and evaluation, and on a broad range of energy issues including energy transition policies, energy access, renewable energy, subsidy delivery, and economic assessments. She holds a Ph.D in Public Policy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) and MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics (India).
