Neelkanth Mishra

Mr. Neelkanth Mishra is the Executive Director at the World Bank Group, representing Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka.

Before this role, he served as a Part-time Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India from 2019. He is also associated with several key public policy and institutional bodies, including the Unique Identification Authority of India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the India Semiconductor Mission, the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Economic Affairs Council, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, and the National Council for Applied Economic Research. He has advised major policymaking bodies such as the Advisory Councils to the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Finance Commissions, the GST RNR Committee, and the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Review Committee.

In the private sector, he has held senior leadership roles as Chief Economist at Axis Bank, Head of Global Research, and Board Member at Axis Capital, leading economic and financial analysis and advising on global and Indian market trends. Earlier, he spent nearly 20 years at Credit Suisse in Singapore, Taipei and Mumbai as an analyst. His last role was as Co-Head of Asia Pacific Strategy and India Strategist, and led research on themes including Asia’s ageing population, shifts in global manufacturing, India’s unicorn ecosystem, and India’s manufacturing renaissance. He has also worked in technology and enterprise systems roles at Infosys and Hindustan Lever. An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, India he holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering and received the Director’s Gold Medal for outstanding all-round achievement, along with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2020.
