Marijn Verhoeven


Marijn Verhoeven is a Lead Economist in the Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions Practice Group and Head of the Global Tax Team, where he leads the Bank’s work on strengthening tax systems. This includes the development of analytical instruments, participation in global tax debates, and contributing to policy advice and capacity building in developing countries. In this role he also leads efforts to strengthen collaboration with the IMF, OECD, and the UN through the Platform for Collaboration on Tax.

Since joining the World Bank in 2008, Marijn has also contributed to the Bank’s work on state-owned enterprises, extractive industry governance, evidence-based public financial management reforms, political economy analysis, and public expenditure reviews.

Before joining the World Bank, Marijn held various positions at the IMF, including Resident Representative in Bangladesh and Deputy Division Chief of the Expenditure Policy Division. He was educated at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.
