Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira


Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira is the World Bank’s Country Manager for Madagascar since September 1st, 2019. Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira is an Economist by training with more than 20 years of experience in the field of development

A Rwandan national, she joined the Bank as an Operations Officer in 1995 in the Rwanda country office and has subsequently built extensive experience working across World Bank various departments, spanning from field to Headquarters, global practices and country management.

She held various positions at the corporate level and country level. She served as an Assistant to the President in EXC in 2010, before rejoining the Africa Region as Country Program Coordinator for Cabo Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. She was also a Practice Manager for the Water Global Practice and Deputy Chief of Staff to the World Bank Group President.

Her recent assignment was Head of Office for the Chief Executive Officer of the World Bank.

Her prior Bank experience includes executive positions in the private sector and teaching assignments in universities.

Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira holds a master’s degree in Economics and business administration.
