Maria Thestrup is the Vice President of Integrity at the World Bank Group. In this role, she oversees the Integrity Vice Presidency’s independent investigations into allegations of fraud and corruption in World Bank Group–financed projects, as well as those involving staff and corporate vendors. She also leads INT’s work to mitigate integrity risks and enhance prevention, supporting operations with practical solutions that help safeguard development outcomes and ensure resources reach their intended beneficiaries. Through this work, Maria helps strengthen integrity and accountability across operations, supporting the conditions for investment and job creation.

A Danish national, Maria brings more than 25 years of global experience in integrity, ethics, compliance, and investigations across international organizations and the private sector. Most recently, she served as Chief Ethics, Risk and Compliance Officer at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she provided enterprise-wide oversight of ethics, risk management, and compliance. She has also held senior leadership roles at LEO Pharma and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Maria is admitted to the Danish Bar and holds advanced law degrees from the University of Copenhagen and King’s College London. She succeeds Lisa G. Rosen, who served as Acting Vice President of Integrity.
