Lars is a macroeconomist by training but most of his work at the World Bank has been related the economics of education, with a particular focus on how to improve the efficiency of public spending in education. For most of his career at the World Bank, he has been based in the field, in Moldova, in Bangkok, and, since 2018, in Brussels.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Lars was a senior economist at the European Central Bank, and he has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Georgetown University.
