Johan A. Mistiaen, a Belgian national, joined the World Bank in 1999 and is currently the Program Leader and Lead Economist for Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. He is based in Nairobi where he coordinates and supports the Bank’s team responsible for delivering the analytical and operational portfolio managed by the Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions group of four Global Practices.
Mistiaen delivered operations, analytical and advisory services in multiple countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, and has also worked in Eastern and Central Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North Africa and the Middle East. He previously led the Bank’s socio-economic and demographic data team and worked in the Bank’s Research Department for some years.
Mistiaen studied biology, economics and statistics at the Universities of York (UK) and Maryland (USA).
