Senior Advisor for Social Protection and Jobs

Jamele Rigolini is the Senior Advisor for Social Protection and Jobs in the World Bank’s Social Protection & Jobs Global Unit. His areas of expertise include social protection, jobs, human development, climate change, poverty and skills. Prior to joining the World Bank he was an Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Warwick (UK), where he taught classes on development economics and economic growth.

At the World Bank he worked on social protection, jobs, poverty, human development and climate change across several regions (Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean). In addition to managing lending operations and technical assistance programs, he also worked on several regional and global Flagship reports on social protection, poverty, social cohesion, and jobs, in close collaboration with other International Organizations, Academia and Think Tanks.

Jamele Rigolini holds a Diploma in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, and a PhD in Economics from New York University. In addition to his policy work he remains active in research and has published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Development Economics, Economics & Politics, Economic Letters, the Journal of Development Studies, and World Development. He is fluent in Italian, French, English, Spanish and German.
