Gina Cardenas is a Colombian national and a Private Sector Development Specialist working on business climate assessment projects with the Regulatory Efficiency team in the World Bank’s Policy Indicators Group (DECIG). Before joining the Regulatory Efficiency team in 2024, Cardenas served as a Competitiveness and Innovation Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where she led high-level policy dialogues with national and subnational governments to improve business environments, promote innovation, and strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystems. Her contributions have supported data-driven policy reforms to foster private sector growth across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and OECD economies. Her portfolio includes loan operations, advisory services, and evidence-based knowledge products that inform public policy. Cardenas holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in economics from Universidad del Norte, Colombia. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
