Mr. Sargsyan, an Armenian national, joined the World Bank in 2000 as an Operations Officer in Infrastructure & Energy Services Department. He has since held various positions working across sectors and regions, including as Program Manager for Climate Finance and Global Lead of Clean Energy. Since 2017, Mr. Sargsyan has been the Head of World Bank’s Myanmar Office and has also been managing operations in Cambodia and Lao PDR. Sargsyan was also overseeing clean energy investments financed by various climate funds. During his 20 years of experience at the World Bank, he worked in a number of countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.
Prior to joining the Bank, he worked as a manager in various private and public sector organizations. He is the author and co-author of a number of publications and papers in the area of clean energy and infrastructure finance. He has an M.S. in applied math, and a Ph.D. (ABD) in economics.
