Christopher MacLennan, a national of Canada, joined the World Bank as the Executive Director for Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in April 2026.

Dr. MacLennan served previously in a number of senior executive roles in the Government of Canada, including Deputy Minister of International Development (2022-2026), Canada’s G20 Sherpa (2020-2024) and Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2020-2022).

Across his career, Dr. MacLennan has contributed to major international initiatives, including leading the team that developed the policy framework for the G8 Muskoka Initiative on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (2010). He holds a Ph.D. from Western University focused on international human rights and constitutional development and was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (2012–2013).

He is the author of Toward the Charter: Canadians and the Demand for a National Bill of Rights, 1929–1960.
