Boosung Kang


Boosung Kang, a Korean national, is the Alternate Executive Director of the World Bank Group representing Australia, Cambodia, Kiribati, Republic of Korea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papa New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu Since November 2, 2020.

Dr. Kang has had a long career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) in Korea where he served in high-level positions, most recently as Director General for G20, IMF & ASEAN+3, International Finance Bureau. Dr. Kang also served as Deputy Director General for International Trade, International Economic Affairs Bureau; Deputy Director General, AfDB Annual Meetings Secretariat; Director, International Economic Affairs Bureau; and Director, Policy Coordination Bureau.

Dr. Kang worked in Beijing, China as Senior Advisor at the Secretariat of the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) supported by UNDP; and in Bangkok, Thailand at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Dr. Kang earned his B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University in 1989 and earned his M.A. in Public Service and Administration from Seoul National University in 1996. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University in 2004.
