Ariel Yépez

Ariel Yépez is an economist and senior executive with more than 25 years of international experience shaping economic policy, infrastructure, energy transition, fiscal policy, institutional reforms, and sustainable development agendas. He has held senior leadership roles at the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank Group, and the Government of Mexico. His career combines experience in public policy, operational leadership, and a strong understanding of how public and private actors can work together to advance long-term development priorities.

At the IDB, Ariel served as Manager of the Infrastructure and Energy Department, overseeing more than US$20 billion in active lending operations and leading annual approvals of US$4.5 billion. He also served as Chief of the Energy Division, where he expanded annual lending from US$300 million to US$1.8 billion and advanced regional energy transition agendas through partnerships with major international organizations. Most recently, he has led flagship research and analytics on infrastructure, energy, fiscal policy, climate, productivity, and innovation.

Ariel holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in Economics from El Colegio de México, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from UNAM. He has also received the National Award of Economic Research from the National Bank of Mexico.
