Alexander Agosti, the World Bank’s Country Representative for the Eastern Caribbean based in Barbados, has over 25 years of experience in the international development and humanitarian space, including regional representation, disaster risk management (DRM), disaster risk financing, post-disaster and post-conflict recovery, crisis management and emergency response, and resilience building.
In his current role, Alex works closely with the governments of Grenada, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis to implement the World Bank regional strategy for the Eastern Caribbean, which focuses on driving economic growth, enhancing climate resilience, and boosting human capital through investments in healthcare, education and social protection systems. He also manages relationships with key partners in the region, including the Caribbean Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, United Nations, European Union, European Investment Bank, Global Affairs Canada, the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the International Monetary Fund, the Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Red Cross Movement.
Alex joined the World Bank in 2015 and has played a key role in conducting high-level policy dialogues with Government and development partners, designing impactful investment projects and development policy operations, developing and operationalizing analytical products in the post-disaster and post-conflict space, first in Africa (Nigeria, Malawi and Somalia) and then in Latin America and the Caribbean (Barbados, Sint Maarten, The Bahamas, Colombia, Ecuador).
Prior to joining the Bank, Alex spent ten years at the American Red Cross in a number of international and domestic leadership roles, including Regional Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean and Regional Representative for Southern Africa. Alex holds a master’s degree in Communications from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Yale University.
