IFC is seeking the services of a consulting firm to support the City of Johannesburg with a situational review; analysis; and development of a strategic roadmap for solid waste management in the city. The assignment will cover historical and projected waste quantities; characteristics and composition; current waste collection; handling; treatment; and disposal activities and facilities; current plans and initiatives; the national and local regulatory framework; waste management tariffs and costs; existing or potential markets for materials / recyclables that can be recovered from the waste; and analysis of options for improved waste management. The assignment will also include waste sampling and testing to understand the quantity; composition; physical; and chemical characteristics of the solid waste for selected sites / areas.
