RESOURCE PERSONSProf. Maya BALTAZAR-HERRERA Professor Maya Baltazar-Herrera is Chief Financial Officer of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and a core faculty member of AIM's Executive Education Program. She is also Program Director of AIM Management Development Program's Finance for Senior Executives Course and Senior Bank Manager Course. She is a business consultant and an actuary. She is Managing Director of Solutions Incorporated, a consulting firm with particular expertise in human resources consulting, risk management, employee compensation and benefits, and employee communication. Her fifteen years of management experience prior to joining the faculty of the Asian Institute of Management were in the areas of strategy, finance, controllership, actuarial science, investments, systems review, institutional accounts administration, business systems analysis and human resources consulting. She has held various positions including: Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Actuary of The Manufacturer's Life Insurance Company; Consulting Actuary and practice leader for Group and Flexible Benefits, Risk Management, Health Care and Employee Communications of The Wyatt Company; Head of the actuarial department of the Jardine CMG Life Insurance Company. Prof. Herrera continues her involvement in general management in her capacity as General Manager of East Asia Plans, Inc. Prof. Herrera provides consulting services in the general areas of strategic planning; project feasibility analysis; financial planning and analysis; actuarial services; risk management; and human resources consulting with an emphasis on strategic human resources planning, compensation, benefits and communication. She has also developed and conducted various seminars and workshops. These range from public seminars on specialist topics such as benefits management, a strategic approach to total compensation, executive benefits and perquisites to workshops on leadership, strategic marketing and personal effectiveness. She has worked with many local and international corporations. These include Citibank, San Miguel Corporation, Amkor/Anam Pilipinas Inc., Motorola Philippines, Aetna HealthCare, Data General, The Coca Cola Export Corporation, Levi Strauss, Procter and Gamble, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Philip Morris, Deutsche Bank, Encyclopedia Britannica, Unisys, Fluor Daniel/AG&P, The Gap (Hong Kong), American Wire and Cable, CMG Life Insurance Company, The Netherlands Insurance Company; First Abacus Capital and Investment Corporation; Aboitiz transport; and IBM Philippines. She has also worked with the Health Policy Development Project, a USAID-funded institution on health care issues. Prof. Herrera is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines and has served that Society in various elected and appointed positions. She is a member of the International Actuarial Association and an associate of the Life Management Institute. She is a member of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines and the American Management Association. Prof. Herrera holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines and a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan.
