Mr. Timothy CHAN

Workshop Team Leader: Technical Support

Dr. Timothy Chan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Management Accounting from the University of Western Australia. He also holds the Master of Science degree in Internal Auditing from City University (London), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Education) degree from Nottingham University, United Kingdom.

Dr. Chan has worked as a Research & Development (R&D) programmer and Systems Analyst in Hong Kong before joining the Economic Development Board of Singapore in 1984 as a Senior Management Officer. He was then seconded to the Japan-Singapore Institute of Software Technology (JSIST) as a lecturer. In 1991, he was promoted as the Applied R&D Manager in JSIST. Since 1997, he has been appointed Deputy Director at the Department of Software Technology at the Singapore Polytechnic.

He has served as the external examiner for a number of universities in the United Kingdom, including the University of Wales, Oxford Brookes University, and Nottingham Trent University. He is also a contracting consultant to the Singapore Institute of Management.

Dr. Chan has presented seminar papers in conferences in Hong Kong (Chinese University of Hong Kong, '90), Japan (Tokyo InfoJapan '90), Singapore (International Conference in Business and Management Education, '92), Korea (InfoScience '93), China (Beijing Smart Card Conference, '94), Australia (Symposium on International Business and Education, RMIT '95), and United Kingdom (School of Education, Nottingham University, '97).

Dr. Chan was awarded membership of the following professional bodies: the Institute of Internal Auditors, UK (1988), Australia Computer Society (1989), Singapore Computer Society (1991), Society for Research into Higher Education (1995), and Singapore Educational Research Association (1995).

Dr. Chan has offered his professional and community services to various organisations. He was the Editor of SYSNET (a bimonthly publication of the Singapore Computer Society) and the Executive Career (a monthly magazine for young business executives), a member of the Computerisation Task Force of the National Productivity Association, a consultant and evaluator of the National Computer Board's IT Programme for Office Worker, a judge for the National Software Competition, a judge for the International ThinkQuest Competition, and a committee member of the National Skills Competition.
