Briefing & News

Before leaving your country

Please inform us of your flight number, date, and time of arrival if you have not done so. This information will help us make arrangements for your accommodations as well as transportation form the airport to Hotel Phoenix.

Workshop Sessions will start the on morning of August 21, 2000. Please adjust your flight arrival schedule in accordance with this schedule.

Please note in Singapore, the death penalty is mandatory for those convicted of trafficking manufacturing, importing or exporting more than 15g of heroin, 30g of morphine, 30g of cocaine, 500g of cannabis, 200g of cannabis resin or 1.2kg of opium. Possession of such quantities is deemed as prima facie evidence of trafficking. For unauthorised consumption, there is a maximum of 10 years imprisonment or a fine of S$20,000 or both.

As an extension of the law against littering, the import and sale of chewing gums is prohibited.

Immigration matters

Please note that if you are holding travel documents issued by the following countries, you will require a Visa prior to entry into Singapore:

  • Afghanistan
  • Algeria
  • Bangladesh (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • Cambodia
  • Commonwealth of Independent States:
    Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
  • Holders of Hong Kong Document of Identity
  • Holders of Palestinian National Authority Passport
  • Holders of Refugee Travel Document issued by Middle-East countries
  • India (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • Iraq
  • Jordan (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • Laos (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Myanmar (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • People's Republic of China
  • Syria
  • Tunisia
  • Vietnam (except for Diplomatic and Official passports)
  • Yemen

In addition, those holding Hong Kong Documents of Identity, Macau SAR Travel Permit, Refugee Travel Documents issued by Middle-East countries and Palestinian Authority Passports will also require a Visa.

How to apply for a visa

Visa application forms are available at the Singapore Overseas Mission. Applications must be made at the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission. The fee is S$20 per issue.

For the application of a social visit visa, you need:

  • 1 copy (original) each of duly completed Form14 (which is obtainable at the website www.sir.gov.sg/forms/imm14.pdf) and FormV39 (which is obtainable at the website www.sir.gov.sg/forms/v39i.pdf) and Annex to Visa card obtainable at the overseas mission. (You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print the form. Download may take a while.);
  • 2 recent passport-sized photograph affixed onto the Annex and Form 14;
  • 1 copy each of the local sponsor's identity card and Re-Entry Permit (for Singapore Permanent Resident only);
  • 1 copy of the official proof of relationship (e.g. official birth certificate showing the names of both parents and the child and/or marriage certificate) if the applicant is the parent/spouse/child of the local sponsor.
  • 1 copy of all pages of the applicant's passport. Any passport with additional page inserts will not be accepted.

The processing time is between 3 working days to 2 weeks provided the application is submitted over the counter and no further verifications are required.

Health requirements

Tourists are not normally required to present health certificates at the Singapore Changi Airport unless there is an outbreak of a communicable disease in the country of origin.

Vaccination against yellow fever is required if you are arriving within 6 days after leaving or transiting countries with infected areas.

Participants are requested to check with their respective health authorities and also the nearest Singapore Embassy or Consulates, regarding the health requirements before entering the country. Singapore Polytechnic, nevertheless, will try inform participants if the Singapore's health authorities would require health clearances at least two weeks before they leave their respective countries.

Photographs

Please bring along two (2) copies of a color 2"x2" color photograph of yourself, preferably with a lighter shade background.

Flight arrangements

We advise you to confirm your return flight before you leave your country, and please keep your original itinerary. While we can assist you on this matter, any re-routing/changes in departure date may create uncertainties regarding your final travel arrangements.
