December 2002 Entry Workshop

An entry workshop for the evaluation was held on December 4, 2002, in Washington, D.C.. The objective of the workshop was to obtain feedback from various stakeholder groups on the proposed approach of the IEG review of the PRSP process. The event involved 27 representatives from various stakeholder groups, including PRSP governments, multilateral organizations, civil society, and the research community, as well as the World Bank and the IMF.

The day's discussion was conducted in four sessions:

  • Evaluating The Preliminary Results Of The PRSP Process: PRSP Objectives and Design
  • Evaluating The Preliminary Results Of The PRSP Process: Effects of the PRSP Process In-Country
  • Evaluating World Bank Effectiveness
  • Evaluating Changes in Donor Behavior & Partnerships
Participants discussed their perspective on the priority evaluative questions and provided valuable suggestions on robust and feasible methods to answer them. The approach paper was revised in light of these and other comments received.

January 2004 Cross Country Workshop on Case Studies

An IEG /IEO cross-country workshop of national stakeholders was hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Africa on January 13 and 14, 2004 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The objective of the workshop was to obtain feedback from national stakeholders (government and non-government) on the cross-country messages emerging from the ten draft IEG /IEO country case studies - Albania, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Guinea, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Vietnam. The workshop informed the finalization of the individual case studies as well as the IEO and IEG synthesis reports. The event involved government and civil society representatives from each of the ten countries.

The discussions were conducted in six sessions:

  • Country-Driven, Involving Broad-Based Participation
  • Contents of PRSPs
  • Partnership Orientation
  • Macroeconomic Framework/External Resource Envelope
  • Joint Staff Assessments (JSAs) of PRSPs
  • Implementation and Preliminary Results
