1956年2月、三菱造船、日本鋼管、トヨタ自動車、石川島重工に対する4件の世銀貸出が調印されました。急速な国内需要および輸出の高まりに対応するため、世銀のタイドローンにより輸入機械が購入され、工場の近代化・拡張が行われたのです。三菱造船は150万ドルの融資をうけ、長崎造船所のディーゼルエンジン製造設備を購入しました。
