Evaluation of World Bank Support for Client Training

Country Case Studies:

To capture the extent and nature of the Bank’s training support across regions as well as thematic areas, the IEG plans to conduct 12country desk reviews. These reviews will assess, both quantitatively and qualitatively, how well Bank supported training activities’ objectives are articulated and aligned with country and Bank development goals and will measure complementarities and synergies, if any, between WBI and project financed training.

Twelve countries have been selected using the following criteria: a) significant presence of both WBI training and project-financed training, including recently completed activities; b) balanced coverage of various borrower-size countries, based on total FY95-05 investment commitments; c) coverage of various institutional conditions, as reflected by CPIA rating on public sector management; d) balanced sector coverage, with a premium on sector overlap between project- and WBI-financed training; and e) balanced geographic coverage. The 12 countries selected are:

Azerbaijan

Nigeria

Bosnia

Philippines

Burkina Faso

Sri Lanka

Guatemala

Tunisia

Lao PDR

Turkey

Mexico

Uganda
