Interview with Team Lead

Ellen Goldstein, Award for Burkina Faso Country Progam

Reason for Selection

Introduced this year, IEG's Special Award for Africa goes to the Bank's fiscal year 2001-2005 Burkina Faso Country Program. The Bank's assistance effectively supported the core objectives of the government program. Key outcomes achieved during this period were a per capita growth averaging an estimated 3.2 percentage points between 2000 and 2004, a decline in the poverty headcount ratio by an estimated 8 percentage points between 1998 and 2003, and an increase in literacy by about 3.5 percentage points between 1998 and 2003. Good progress has been made toward achieving many important outcomes for the country, as well as for the broader development of Africa.
