IEG Good Practice Awards: 2004 Winners

Project Award

Winner

Estonia Health Project

Reason for Selection

The Bank performed well providing technical assistance and training that was timely, of high quality, and comprehensive. All key informants pointed to the vital role the Bank played throughout the project period as catalyst, partner, and "honest broker" for health sector reform. The project contributed to significant and promising change nationwide in the delivery and financing of health care services. While Estonia is no longer a Bank borrower, the project provides lessons for health sector reform in other transition countries.
