IEG Good Practice Awards: 2004 Winners

Project Award

Winner

Burkina Faso Transport SECAL project

Reason for Selection

The Bank contributed to extensive privatization in the transport sector. Coordination with the borrower was excellent during most of the project period. Furthermore, the project required difficult coordination with a large number of cofinanciers. The Bank team was instrumental in persuading the government to reinstate practical procedures related to small contracts for road maintenance, a crucial decision to ensure smooth implementation. The project paved the way for follow-on Bank activities focused on improving low-volume roads in rural areas.
