Format of LSMS Documentation

LSMS documents are posted on the Net as ASCII (definition), PostScript (definition), or PDF (definition) files. These formats were chosen because they are independent of the software that created the documents, can be viewed and printed from a variety of platforms (pc's, mac's, unix), and freeware versions of the viewer and print drivers are readily available. We believe this choice makes the documents accessible to the largest possible research community.

Many of the larger ASCII and postscript documents have been compressed.  To view and print compressed documents, you must first download the files and decompress them before they are ready for viewing or printing.  Any decompression software can be used.

PDF files are marked with the PDF icon . To view and print these files, you will need the Adobe Acrobat software. Adobe Systems distributes a freeware PDF viewer and print driver for most all platforms. See the Adobe Acrobat Reader page or the Adobe Home Page for information about how to obtain a free copy of the viewer and instructions on how to integrate the software with your Web browser.
