Tajikistan 2003: Living Standards Survey

The 2003 Tajikistan Living Standards Survey provides individual level and household level socio-economic data from 4,156 households. It is not a panel survey with the 1999 survey.  All stages of the survey were performed by the GOSCOMSTAT (State Statistical Agency) with the technical and financial assistance of the World Bank. GOSCOMSTAT has given permission to the World Bank to distribute the documentation and data base from the Living Standards Survey.

The information for the LSMS survey were collected using 3 questionnaires.  The household questionnaire collects information at both the household and individual levels.   Information collected at the household level includes housing, general information on displaced persons, income sources, consumption/expenditures, perception of food security and coping strategies, durable goods, and agricultural activity.   Information collected at the individual level includes demographics, education, health, employment, and migration.  The second questionnaire is the female questionnaire which was administered to female household members aged 15-49.   Finally, the population point questionnaire collects community level information on demographics, infrastructure, the economy, refugees and displaced persons, education, health, agriculture, institutions, and prices.

For the best use of the database, it is highly recommended that users read all of the documentation that is provided for using the data (see below "Documentation for the 2003 Tajikistan LSMS").

Data files and necessary supporting documentation can be downloaded from the Net. To obtain the data, first read the sections describing the formats of the data and documentation. Download the documentation, then fill in the 'Data Use Agreement Form', and finally download the data.
