Peru PLSS 1990: Encuesta de Hogares
Sobre Medición de Niveles de Vida

The 1990 Peru Living Standards Survey (PLSS) or Encuesta de Hogares Sobre Medición de Niveles de Vida provides individual level and household level socio-economic data from 1,525 households residing in Lima, Peru. The survey was carried out from June 12, 1990 to July 27, 1990.

The 1990 PLSS was not conducted under the official auspices of either the World Bank or the Government of Peru. Gillette Hall, a graduate research student in economics, in affiliation with Cuánto S.A. a private Peruvian research institute, was commissioned to conduct the 1990 PLSS survey. The World Bank, however, played a major role in the survey, providing 100% of the funding and extensive technical support to the project. The Statistical Institute of Peru (INE) provided essential materials for designing the 1990 sample, and conducted much of the sampling work.

A special characteristic of the PLSS surveys is that they provide panel data for household information obtained in the surveys. For example, the 1990 PLSS collected data from 727 households that were also surveyed in 1985-86. The same potential exists for matching the 1991 data with the 1994 data set, but no data file containing merge codes exist.

All data files and necessary supporting documentation can be downloaded from the Net. To obtain the data, first read the sections describing the formats of the data and documentation, then fill in the 'Data Use Agreement Form', and finally download the data and documents.
