Data from the 1985 Cote d'Ivoire Living Standards Survey

In order to download the data from the Cote d'Ivoire Living Standards Survey, it is necessary to fill in the Data Use Agreement Form found at the bottom of this page. All data sets are available in either ASCII, SAS Portable, or Stata formats. If you do not know which format you prefer, return to the page on Data Formats for a description of these formats.

The data files have been separated into two groups, and each group has been compressed into one large file. (Within each compressed group are several data files which have been compressed a second time.) If you have difficulty unzipping the data files, see the instructions on decompressing the files in the section on data formats.

• The Cross section group of data files contains all the 1985 CILSS data collected from the household, community and price surveys. It also contains the constructed variables such as income and expenditure aggregates as well as weights. A separate page contains all of the documentation for the cross section, including variable labels and summary statistics.

• The Panel group of data files includes information that will assist those users who want to do analyses of the panels found in the data. Descriptions of the data files included can be found in Annex B of the Basic Information Document that can be downloaded from the CILSS 85 Documents page.

Note: The aggregates were created by researchers for their own use. We provide them on an as is basis and the documentation provided in the Basic Information Document is the only information we can provide on their construction. Users are welcome to use these files or to construct their own income and expenditure aggregates from the data files.

To obtain the data you will first need to fill out the Data Agreement Form. The form simply states that downloading the data obligates you to cite the source of the data and to send copies of papers to the LSMS Division of the World Bank and Cote d'Ivoire Statistical Institute. The form also requires you to state your name, address, and intended use of the data. Once you have submitted the form, you will be sent to a page containing links to the data files. If your browser doesn't support forms (or fails to forward you to the data page upon completing the form), contact LSMS and you will receive instructions on how to progress to the page with the data files.  Information on additional data collected in Cote d'Ivoire is available at the Africa Household Survey web site. These data include Priority Surveys for 1992/93, 1995 and 1998; a UEMOA household survey for 1996; and Demographic and Health Surveys for 1994 and 1998.
