MELODIE is a French macroeconomic model with a detailed technological description of the energy sector, especially in the electricity sector. The model also computes polluting emissions such as: NOx, SO2 and CO2. Economy, energy and environment are then described in a single framework, but for each topic a specific methodological has been developed. MELODIE is adapted to measure any energy policy modifying the cost structure of electricity supply.
- Input/Output tables at current and constant prices;
- Economic accounts of the Institutional sectors;
- Technological and economic data on the electricity sector including fuel cycle;
- International economic data;
- Energy balances in physical and monetary units;
- Environmental data (polluting emissions).
National.
Medium (1-5 years) and long run (40 years) term.
Analysis of Macroeconomic-Energy and Environment linkages. Basic approach: macro econometric model with technical representation for the energy sector.

Demand analysis:Detailed electric system analysis
Analysis of energy requirements for households, and industrial sectors using econometric estimation of transfer cost and utility functions;
Resource analysis:
Supply side analysis: Technological representation of the electricity sector including a full representation of coal, gas, oil and nuclear fuel cycles;
Supply/demand balance: Price equilibrium.
Load curve: Supply load curve;Environmental analysis
Load characterization: Analysis of capacity of supply taking into account each power plant;
Generation expansion analysis: Electricity tariffs are calculated;

Decision support analysis:
Flexibility
The model already has been adapted to different countries (Algeria, Morocco, Jordan and Tunisia).
